Innovating to Save Newborn Lives.

Deaths from hypothermia

The Need for Action

Each year, millions of newborns face life-threatening complications from hypothermia, particularly in low-resource settings. Hypothermia can disrupt brain development, cause stunted growth, and even lead to death — yet these deaths are preventable with context-appropriate, scalable solutions.

Joseline’s Story: Bringing Warmth to a Newborn in Burundi

In rural Burundi, access to high-quality healthcare is limited, electricity is unreliable, and clean water and sanitation are scarce. Small and sick newborns face daily challenges to survive and require constant, specialized care.

Joseline (pictured), like many mothers in the region, gave birth in a crowded hospital where doctor and nurse to patient ratios are well above global standards.

Although the hospital provides two meals a day, Joseline still prepares extra food and washes clothes and sheets, often pulling her away during her baby’s most vulnerable moments.

To keep her baby warm and alive, Joseline practices Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC), holding her baby skin-to-skin. But warmth must be continuous to prevent hypothermia and its consequences, including poor growth, serious illness, or even death.

For mothers like Joseline, keeping a newborn warm is a constant, critical challenge. But continuous skin-to-skin care isn’t always possible — and when it isn’t, they need a safe and reliable alternative.

Introducing the Dream Warmer.

Babies born too soon or too small cannot regulate their temperature. That’s where the Dream Warmer™ can bridge the gap.

This reusable warming pad, safely heated with hot water, helps stabilize and regulate the newborn’s temperature for up to 6 hours — no power or complicated equipment needed.

Backed by published research and trusted in hospitals and clinics worldwide, the Dream Warmer is a simple, low-cost, and proven solution helping families, caregivers, and frontline health workers give every newborn a warmer start to life.

Our Technology

The Dream Warmer contains Phase Change Material (PCM) — a safe, reusable substance that melts at 37°C, ideal for newborn care. Once heated with boiled water, the liquid PCM slowly releases heat as it solidifies. A built-in temperature indicator shows when the warmer is safe to use, and the pad fits into a durable neoprene sleeve — no electricity needed.

How It Works

Thoroughly Tested

The Dream Warmer has been rigorously evaluated across six studies on three continents — including three clinical trials in Rwanda and three implementation studies in Rwanda, Malawi, and Mexico. Parents and health workers overwhelmingly reported that the device was easy to use, effective, and well accepted in both clinical and home care settings.
